American artist Ed Ruscha (born¬†December 16, 1937 in Omaha, Nebraska) is a central figure in the visual articulation of Los Angeles’ changing landscapes of mi twentieth centuries. He rose to prominance in the wake of the pop art movement, and also had a substantial impact on conceptual art. His works span photography, painting, drawings, books and films, and the roots of his artistic practice can be traced to dada, surrealism, and abstract expressionism. Lives and works in Los Angeles.

The painting depicts a tattoo that reads “Angel – ” in Gothic capital letters, against a skin-colored background.¬† “Ed Ruscha ’91” is written in pencil in the lower right corner of the painting, under two embossed marks on the paper.
