August 25, 2019 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Emotional Labor
What Do Landscapes Want?

Platt and Borstein Galleries | The Project Room
Free and open to the public

Join a day of art events at our beautiful campus!

At 2pm, AJU’s Chief Curator, Dr. Rotem Rozental, will guide a tour through our art spaces, including the Sondra and Marvin Smalley Sculpture Garden.

At 3pm, our galleries will be officially open, launching a new season of exhibitions, talks, workshops, and performances.

The group show Emotional Labor explores the tensions and conflicts between what happens on the surface and what we forcefully try to conceal. Participating artists include: Danielle Durchslag, Michele Jaquis and Jeremy J. Quinn, Jordan Nassar, B. Neimeth, Kaitlynn Redell and Roni Shneior.

Israeli artists grapple, undermine, yearn for, redefine and argue with local landscapes and their representation since the early decades of the twentieth century. What Do Landscapes Want?, which unveils pieces from the recently donated Michael Hittleman collection of Israeli art, explores some of these internal conflicts, and the ways in which they manifested in local practice. With works by Avigdor Arikha, Larry Abramson, Pinchas Cohen-Gan, Itzhak Danziger, Atsmon Ganor, Joshua Neustein, David Reeb, Yohanan Simon  and Anna Ticho.
