Symposium: Ezra Orion Revisited

Through conversations, lectures and open discussions, the event will explore the legacy of the late sculptore Ezra Orion, hailed as Israel’s best forgotten artist, and its intersections with local and international practice.
The exhibition is held as part of the series Chapters in Israeli Art.

Speakers include:
Anthony Salvador (Director, Praz-Delavallade Gallery, Los Angeles) will be in conversation with co-curators Rotem Rozental (Chief Curator, AJU, Assistant Dean, Whizin Center, and Director, The Institute for Jewish Creativity), and Udi Edelman (Curator, Digital Art Lab, Israel, Director, The Center for Public Presence) discussing the intersections of Israeli art, Southern California, land and public art.
Joanna Fiduccia (Reed College, Portland, OR.) will discuss a proposition by artist Alberto Giacometti for an unbuildable monument, suggesting a pre-history of Orion’s spatial investigations.
Art historian Daniel Spaulding will host a conversation with artist Dan Levenson, exploring his project, and Orion’s connection to contemporaneous work.
The symposium will conclude with the opening of the exhibition Launching Sites: Ezra Orion Revisited, 3-5pm.
